Tenancies established from 1 July 2019 and the 30th June in 2021

  • Ceiling and underfloor insulation is required throughout Napier South and New Zealand rental homes where it’s reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Statement of Intent to Comply along with an Insulation Declaration and an Insurance Statement should be included with any new, renewed or varied tenancy agreement.
  • Property managers and landlords are required to keep records that demonstrate the compliance with each Healthy Homes Standard that apply or will be applied throughout the tenancy period of their rental properties.

Starting 1 July 2021

  • Property managers and private landlords should make sure that their rental properties are in compliance with the Healthy Homes Standard within 90 days of any new, renewed or varied Tenancy.
  • All boarder houses (except Kainga Ora and Community Housing Providers with registered boarding home tenancies) must comply with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the date when the tenancy started.
